Junior Landcare

Mr Alby Wooler and Landcare Leaders

Junior Landcare 2014: It has been a busy semester with Junior Landcare!  We have had such a large interest that fortnightly groups have run on a Friday.  Our Hartley Street garden currently consists of 35 plants, including natives Ozothamus, Bottlebrushes and Banksias and students have worked hard at turning the area into an "oasis". Work has begun in our Christmas Herb garden, which is located between the music and LEAP rooms.  We have growing parsley, rosemary, chives, oregano, sage and basil (just to name a few).  Students will be taking herbs home in decorated pots, in time for Christmas cooking!  Parents - please feel free to come along and join your children on Landcare days and see the great work they have achieved - please check with office for confirmed times. 4/5E were the lucky class chosen for the Wetlands Excursion, and we were blessed with a sunny day to enjoy this beautiful part of our region.  The Iwasaki wetlands cover over 3000 hectares and the wetlands are a natural nursery for fish, waterbirds and wildlife.  Students linked their geography studies on sustainability and had plenty of questions about this wonderful, productive ecosystem.
A big thank you to Ms Williams and all students for making Junior Landcare a success.
