As we approach the end of Term 2, I want to take a moment to reflect on the continued growth and vibrancy of our school community.
School Growth and Class Restructures
We are delighted to share that our school continues to grow, with 28 new students enrolling since the start of the year. This reflects the strong reputation we have built as a school that offers excellent learning opportunities for all students.
Due to this significant growth, and in line with our Enrolment Management Plan, we are working hard to ensure we have sufficient space and resources for all students within our catchment. Several classes across year levels have exceeded recommended numbers, placing added pressure on both teachers and students.
To address this, we will be introducing a new class from the start of Semester 2. This solution minimises disruption, as students will have completed their assessments and a fresh term of learning will be beginning. The change will affect students across a number of year levels, and will allow for more focused support and attention in classes.
The key changes will be:
- Creation of a new Year 4/5 composite class
- Mrs Dell's Year 1/2 class will become a straight Year 1 class, with the Year 2 students moving into other Year 2 classes.
- Mrs Willoughby's Year 3/4 class will become a straight Year 3 class, with the Year 4 students moving into other Year 4 classes.
Our school leadership team has spent considerable time reviewing class lists to ensure student wellbeing and learning remain the top priority. Families of students who will be impacted will receive a phone call next week from a member of the leadership team to discuss the changes.
Upcoming Events & Community Highlights
Emu Park State School – School Review
Our school community will be participating in a School Review during Week 1 of Term 3, which is a standard process for schools with a newly appointed principal.
The review team will be onsite from Tuesday 15th July to Thursday 17th July. As part of the review, team members will be keen to speak with families to hear your thoughts and experiences about the school. They may approach you for a brief chat during drop-off times, or if you would prefer to schedule a phone conversation, please contact the school office and we will happily arrange a time that suits you.
This is a valuable opportunity to reflect on what we're doing well and identify areas where we can continue to grow. We appreciate your support and look forward to the insights this process will bring.
Pyjama Day – Friday 27th June
Next Friday, we invite all students to wear pyjamas to school and bring a gold coin donation to support the Pyjama Foundation. It's a fun way to support a great cause! A reminder that students still need to wear appropriate sun safe clothing and regular school shoes.
Walk to School Day – Friday 20th June
Today's Walk to School Day was a great success! Thank you to all the families and students who participated. It was heart-warming to see our community coming together to promote healthy habits and strong school spirit.
Under 8's Day – Tuesday 24th June
We are excited to celebrate our youngest learners with a fun-filled morning of activities on Tuesday 24th June. Our staff have been working hard to prepare a day of joyful learning, and we warmly welcome parents and carers to join in the celebration. We are excited to be able to host students from Coastal Kids for the morning in addition to our Prep – Year 2 students, and it will be wonderful to see local community members from SES, Emergency Services and Surf Life Saving joining us for the morning.
Lion's Vision Screening
Vision screening has commenced at school today. This valuable initiative can detect early vision concerns, and families of children identified with potential issues will be contacted directly. From the testing today, it was identified that 21% of students tested would benefit from an appointment with an optometrist. Further details of testing dates next term will be communicated with families. If you have not yet had the chance to return your form for the vision testing, please return to the office as soon as possible. We appreciate the work of our local Lions club and their partnership with our school.
Mobile Dental Clinic – From 14th July 2025
The Queensland Government Child and Adolescent Oral Health Service is pleased to offer full dental treatment for our students. This service will commence on 14th July and be provided using the Mobile Dental Clinic 74B, located between the CWA Hall and Emu Park Library. An email with more information will be shared shortly with families.
Supporting Communication
The Queensland Department of Education has released a resource on effective communication between members of the school community. This is a helpful reminder that strong partnerships between families and schools play a vital role in student success. A copy of this resource is available online (https://education.qld.gov.au/parents/Documents/communicating-with-your-childs-school.pdf) and will be posted on our school Facebook page.
As we draw the term to a close, I want to extend my thanks to our students, families, and staff for your ongoing support and commitment. Although I have only been part of the school community since the beginning of this term, I already feel an immense sense of pride in our students, staff, and families. It is truly a privilege to be part of such a caring and supportive school. I have been genuinely impressed by the dedication of our staff in creating meaningful learning experiences, and I appreciate the warm welcome and continued support from our families.
