Senior Leader Program

This process encourages students to develop leadership skills, contribute positively to the school environment, and serve as role models for their peers.                                                          

School and House Captains

Each year Emu Park State School elects two School captains, Vice captains, House Captains and Music Captains.

Students who wish to nominate for each of these positions are required to meet the following criteria by Term 4 in Year 5:

  • Personal Achievement Award level of GOLD
  • Limited or no recorded behaviours for Year 5
  • Demonstrate our habits and follow school rules independently
  • Completed the Senior Leader “Yellow Card"
  • Present a speech to the school community for consideration as a captain

Election procedures

Applicants are invited to present a speech to a school assembly of students in Years 3 to 6. Year 5 students and school staff are invited to complete a ballot form for each of the positions.  All votes are collected and sent to the office for official counting.

​Senior Leaders

Participation in our Senior Leader's Program is open to all Emu Park State School students who have achieved their Gold Personal Achievement Award and have displayed appropriate behaviours during Year 5 and will be entering Year 6. Participation by all students is encouraged. Students who successfully complete the program are considered as Senior Leaders and will receive a Senior Leader Badge. This position comes with certain responsibilities, rewards and opportunities not always available to other students. 

Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply to be a Senior Leader.

  • Personal Achievement Award level of GOLD in Year 5
  • Limited or no recorded behaviours for Year 5
  • Demonstrate our habits and follow school rules independently
  • Completed the Senior Leader “Yellow Card"
  • Year 6 students who meet the Senior Leadership criteria are welcome to apply throughout the year

Leaders' privileges and expectations

  • Attendance/presentation of school ceremonies and special events
  • Greeting special school guests
  • Use of hall toilets
  • Privilege of eating lunch and remain outside hall area during recess
  • Assist staff at special events and sporting carnivals
  • Represent the school at community events​.
