Dear Parents
In the blink of an eye Term 1 is done.
Unfortunately due to some family matters I have had to take a number of leave days this term. I have a couple more days during the first week next term then hopefully life will be back to normal. I am looking forward to getting back into classrooms and being around the school to catch up with parents in the mornings and afternoons.
Tiffany Hunter has taken some Long Service leave for the first six weeks of Term 2 and my thanks to Mel Campisi who will be Acting Head of LEAP during this time.
State Schools have become very complex places of learning. Did you know that in our school of 473 students we have the following:-
- 78 First Nation Students
- 96 students with a disability
- 10 students in Care of the State
- 5 students with English as their second language.
As we move into the cooler months we ask that if your child is showing any signs or symptoms of being unwell they are kept at home. I do understand that this places difficulty on working parents but we are required to send students home if they are unwell. Did you know so far this term there have been 841 presentations of students to our sick room. This varies from illness to bumps and scratches.
Over the past months we have advertised for and now recruited a new School's Officer (Grounds Person) We welcome Steven Perkins who will commence his work in our school in early May. In the interim, my thanks to Allan York who is calling in from time to time to keep the grass under control. I am aware that the finer aspects of our grounds are suffering however I believe this will be quickly addressed in the near future and we will have the place back to looking amazing.
Our school focus this term and into the future remains on Universal Design for Learning. Our teachers are continuing to develop their knowledge and understanding of this highly complex and demanding way of working in classrooms. This development starts in the curriculum planning stages and over time will be clear in teacher actions. Very briefly our school is working towards creating classrooms that increase opportunities for students by removing the barriers that prevent learning. Did you know that for the last reporting period our students showed the following outcomes:-
- 82% of students in Prep to Year 2 received a C or better in English
- 95% of students in Prep to Year 2 received a C or better in Mathematics
- 83.3% of students in Year 3 to Year 6 received a C or better in English
- 87.3% of students in Year 3 to Year 6 received a C or better in Mathematics
I wish you all the very best for the coming break. I hope that you are able to spend some quality time with your family and I look forward to seeing you next term.
Cheers
Wayne
