Dear Parents and Caregivers.

Another busy term is well under way. We have already been fortunate enough to participate in several exciting events. Our swimming carnivals were held over two fun filled days. Our students demonstrated great sportsmanship and positivity by participating and encouraging each other in the many events.

It was wonderful to see and have the opportunity to speak with the many parents and caregivers who came to the parent teacher interviews. Studies demonstrate when parents are actively engaged in their children's learning that the children are more likely to develop positive self-esteem, be motivated to learn, be positive about school and achieve good grades. Adolescents are less likely to have discipline issues, get involved in substance abuse or drop out of school. Young people are more likely to maintain high aspirations and plan to go on to further education and build a career.

Many of our Year 5 and 6 students participated in a sporting Gala day at Barmaryee Sports Complex . A fun day was had by all and our school community should be very proud of the way these students participated and behaved in this event. Well done Emu Park!

Year 3 and Year 5 students completed their NAPLAN tests online this year. Our computer systems ran smoothly and our students showed positivity and resilience during the testing period. Results should be available later in the year.

Next week we will be holding our Athletics Carnivals over two days. The Prep to year 2 carnival will be Thursday morning from 9 to approx. 12:30pm. On Thursday afternoon 1pm to 3pm Year 3 to 6 students will be participating in the 100 and 200m heats. On Friday Year 3 to 6 will participate in the 100 and 200m final and the Field events. Parents are welcome to attend these carnivals and watch from slopes.

On Thursday 24 June we will be holding an Under Eights Day. Students from the Prep to Year 2 classes will have the opportunity to participate in a morning of activities. The Kindy classes from Coastal Kids will be joining us as well. Parents of students in these year levels are welcome to join us. Please watch for more information.

Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.

Enjoy some time reading with your children this weekend.

Ellen
