Welcome back to another exciting term at Emu Park State School! We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break and that the first two weeks of term have been great!
Welcome to Our New Staff
We are pleased to introduce two new members joining our school community this term:
- Callum McDonald has joined us from Capella State School and will be teaching class 4/5M. We are thrilled to have Callum on board and look forward to the energy and expertise he brings.
- Emily Parmenter is an experienced and passionate Arts teacher who has been in our region for a number of years. She has joined our Arts team and will be teaching Year 2 students each Thursday this semester.
- Katherine Cox will be commencing next Monday (28th July) as our new Instrumental Music (Strings) teacher. Please note that strings lessons will now take place each Monday (instead of Thursday). Although lessons commence next week, orchestra will only begin in Week 4 (4th August).
School Review Update
Thank you to the families who took the time last week to speak with the school review team, either over the phone or in person around the school. We received overwhelmingly positive feedback, particularly regarding the strong partnerships between families and the school. These partnerships play a vital role in the success of our students. We look forward to sharing the results of the review once the final report is received.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Our Parent Teacher Interviews will be held in the Emu Park SS Hall on Wednesday, 30th July from 3:15 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with your child's teacher to discuss their progress and gain an understanding of the next steps for their academic development.
Additionally, school leaders from Yeppoon State High School—Emma Keyes and Sharrie Van Itallie—will be available to conduct enrolment interviews for Year 7, 2026, and to speak with families about the exciting opportunities at our local high school.
To book an interview for Parent Teacher interviews, please complete online at https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70662. Alternatively, please contact the office if you would like assistance booking an interview. Please note that interview bookings close on Monday 28th July. If you miss this booking time, please contact the office to schedule an interview at an alternative time.
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
Our school is currently participating in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). This is an annual process that takes place in all Australian schools.
The NCCD helps schools better understand the adjustments and support provided to students, and it ensures that the right resources and planning are in place to support every learner. It also contributes to decisions around government funding.
There is no additional work required from families, but if you'd like to know more about the NCCD and how it works, you can visit the official website: www.nccd.edu.au
If you have any questions or would like to speak to someone about the support your child receives at school, please don't hesitate to get in touch with your child's classroom teacher.
NAIDOC Week
It was wonderful to celebrate NAIDOC week today with our special assembly run by our Indigenous School Leaders this morning. Seeing the student choir performing a welcome song at the start of the ceremony was certainly a highlight and will stay in the memory of our students for a long time! This year is the 50th Anniversary of NAIDOC and the theme was "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy", so it was special to see different generations in the hall celebrating this day with us. It was also wonderful to have community members from Central Queensland Indigenous Development (CQID) and Woppaburra Rangers join us to share their culture and values.
Book Week – August 16-23
This year is the 80th anniversary of Children's Book Week. Book Week is a great opportunity to promote the importance of reading and imagination and to celebrate, students are invited to participate in an optional dress-up day on Friday, 22nd August to celebrate their favourite book characters. We encourage creativity and look forward to seeing all the wonderful costumes!
School Opinion Survey
You may have received an email this week with the Emu Park State School School Opinion Survey. If you haven't yet completed the survey, please take about 10 minutes to do so, as we really value your feedback and it helps us improve and tailor the support we provide to our students.
Tuckshop update
Our tuckshop staff, led by Heidi Armstrong, does an outstanding job providing high-quality food for our school community. Some changes to the menu will take effect next week—please check the QKR! app carefully to view the updates. Most of the changes affect the second break menu, with a reduced selection of items, as this is only a short break for students.
