Welcome back to all of our families. Welcome to Emu Park to our new families who have started this week. We look forward to getting to know you as part of our community. Welcome to our new staff members Mrs Tara Carrol 2/3B, Mrs Emma Doyle and Mrs Emma Cooper Prep J, and Mrs Angelique Nelson acting Business Manager.

The term has already started with some amazing activities and events for our students.

On Monday we hosted over 200 students for an Instrumental Music Workshop. Instrumental students from all of the Capricorn Coast schools attended and they had the privilege of practicing and performing with Redcliff State High School Band and Strings students. It was a MAGIC day of music making and new friendships culminating in 2 concerts where students were able to perform for their peers and family/friends.

The day started with a meet and greet before the students were split into their various ensembles – Strings and Band. Here they commenced a two hour intensive workshop, learning a few pieces which would be performed in the afternoon concerts. Students were mentored by our Brisbane friends and learnt a great deal about musicianship, ensemble etiquette and the thrill of being able to perform for live audiences!

Audiences consisted of Emu Park SS students and staff followed by a second concert for family and friends! It was so much fun and the students worked really hard to play their new pieces for everyone.  A special thank you to Mrs Bergin, Mrs De Sousa Roque and Mrs Sleeman for their organisation and planning of this great event.

Tuesday and Wednesday saw our Year 6 students participating in the Regional Shield competition in Rockhampton. Two days of Rugby League and Netball was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Mrs Karner, Ms Hoppe and Mrs Stacpoole.

Other events this term include NAIDOC activities in Week 2, Friday sport for Year 5 and 6 students, and Bookfair just to name a few. Keep informed by checking emails and our website.
