Parents,
My thanks to Mrs Clayton who has Acted Principal for me whilst I was on leave at the beginning of this term. Mrs Clayton gets to do this again for the next three weeks whilst I am on Long Service Leave.
Like you, our school is keeping a close eye on COVID developments. We are already experiencing absences of both students and staff as they follow the ever changing expectations of Queensland Health. We continue to have learning as usual and we are placed to respond to this changing field of play. Should anything change we will notify families as soon as practical by SMS and follow up with a more comprehensive statement via email.
Our school has received a few enquiries regarding the presence of head lice. Departmental rules changed several years back stating that schools are not able to send home or single out students who have headlice. This, as you can imagine, is very difficult to manage as we are not able to remove the source of the problem. Our process is to alert all families in the class and inform the parent of the student carrying the lice. Unfortunately the obligation to actually do something about the information rests with the parent. I understand the labour and frustration in continually cleaning clothes and bedding then having your child possibly “reinfested" the following day. We are also not pleased with the situation but are limited in our actions.
From Monday the 9th students will no longer be able to bring toys and play items from home to school unless it is specifically for a class project. This includes, footballs, soccer balls, swap cards and match box cars. To ensure students have good opportunity to play, the sports shed will be open every break to enable the borrowing of balls and other equipment. Please assist us by reminding your child to leave their own toys and sports equipment at home for safe keeping.
Our new toilet block is progressing very very slowly with anticipated completion early next month. It looks good and we can't wait to have it available to the students. The lift access to the library continues to be affected by supply and demand and I am not able to get an indication of completion time.
We welcome Angelique Nelson to the position of Acting Business Manager and Tara Carroll who is teaching a range of classes and replacing Mrs Gannon when she goes on her Maternity Leave later this term.
