Reading Commitment at Emu Park SS

At our school, we are committed to supporting every student on their reading journey, recognising reading as a crucial life skill that opens doors to future success and opportunity. Students are working hard to develop key reading skills, including phonemic awareness, word reading, vocabulary, and understanding word meanings. We're also focusing on morphology—how the smallest parts of words (like prefixes and suffixes) contribute to their meaning. These skills help students become confident, independent readers, and provides our students with the skills to engage in more complex texts. Our dedicated teachers are doing a fantastic job bringing this learning to life in the classroom, and it's been inspiring going into classes this week to see how engaged and enthusiastic students are about their progress. We are proud of the strong foundations we're building together to ensure every child has the skills they need to thrive now and into the future.

Walk to School day – Friday 30th May 2025.

We're excited to take part in Walk Safely to School Day on Friday 30 May! It's a great chance for families to walk together and chat about road safety. Planning a safe route, setting a regular schedule, and making walks fun can help build healthy habits. Remember to always hold your child's hand and model safe behaviours. Parents, students and family members are invited to join our staff at the tables near the gate of Bell Park at 8:20am (for an 8:30am departure to school) to promoting fitness, safety, and community spirit. Following this initiative, families are invited to stay for our school parade starting at 9am in the school hall.

Life Ed

Students will soon take part in the Life Ed program, covering vital topics like respectful relationships, emotional well-being, cybersafety, nutrition, personal safety, and healthy choices. This engaging initiative empowers every Queensland child with the knowledge and skills to make safe, informed choices and thrive in life. The program is differentiated for each year level, covering age appropriate discussions and will commence in Week 7 Tuesday 3rd to Thursday 12th June. More information will be sent home in the coming week.

Gala Days

Our Year 5/6 students have had a wonderful time participating in the Gala Days the last two Fridays. It was wonderful to see (and hear from many members of the community) the wonderful sportsmanship and sense of teamwork by our students.

Prep Vision Screening: 27/28 May

Students in Prep have the opportunity to participate in a free vision screening on the 27/28th May. If you missed the timeline to complete the online consent form, families can collect a hard copy of the permission form from the office and hand this in up to the day of testing. We encourage all families to take advantage of this free service, even if you believe your child does not have any difficulties with their vision.

Under 8's day: 24 June

One of the most exciting days of the year—Under 8's Day is coming soon on 24th June! A highlight of our school calendar, this special day is packed with fun, hands-on activities designed to spark creativity and joy in our youngest learners.
