As this is my first newsletter for 2024, I would like to welcome back all our families to the new school year and extend a warm welcome to the many new families who have joined us this year. By now I hope everyone is settled into the school year routine and are familiar with each of their children's teachers and class expectations. I believe most year levels have held their Parent Information sessions. If you have missed your child's session, please reach out to their class teacher for any information you have missed.

In his last newsletter Mr McMurtrie informed you he was taking leave and I was replacing him for two weeks. Due to family circumstances this leave has been extended and I will be acting Principal for a few more weeks. My thanks for Ms Hunter who will be acting Deputy Principal during this time.

Term One starts our year off with a range of events and activities and I encourage you to regularly check your emails, our website, Facebook and our signs for reminders and updates for the many activities.

Swimming started this week and it is wonderful to see the students participating in lessons and learning and refining this essential skill. The students have enjoyed the lessons under instructions of Mrs Karner and Mrs Stieg.

Instrumental Music: This week our Instrumental students have enjoyed starting lessons. Our Senior Band students are attending a Kickstart Workshop on Friday at Yeppoon High School. This is providing them with an opportunity to play and learn with students from other schools and begin preparations for participation in the Fanfare Competition later this year.  Our Junior Strings students participated in their Kickstart Workshop on Thursday at Yeppoon State School.  The goal of this workshop was to develop skills and confidence preparing, using and caring for their instrument.

NAPLAN:  During Weeks 8 and 9, Year 3 and 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN testing. Parents and Carers of students in these year levels please watch for more information in the next week.

Parent Teacher Interviews: Parent Teacher interviews will be held on Wednesday 20th March, in Week 9. An email will notify you when the SOBS booking system is open for bookings.

Life Education: Liz and Harold will be visiting us during Weeks 9 and 10. Once again we are fortunate that Communities for Families (Smith Family) will be funding their visit and our students will be able to attend at no cost to families.

Hearing Screening:  In the coming weeks some of our students will be invited to participate in free hearing screening tests. We encourage parents to reply promptly if you receive an invitation and take advantage of this opportunity even if you do not think there are any issues.

I look forward to seeing you around our school.

Ellen
