Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Term 2 is now well underway with a full calendar of events and learning opportunities. Inside the classrooms students and teachers are busy completing Semester 1 units and consolidating concepts as they move on to assessment items in preparation for report cards which will be issued at the end of term. Please be mindful of unnecessary school absences as every day counts and classes are learning and achieving great things each day. Having said that, as the cooler months arrive and the flu season with it, if students are unwell please keep them home so germs are not shared throughout the whole community.
Sporting Events: We have a very active term with sporting events. We started with two fun filled days for our Swimming Carnivals. Congratulations to Chintoo who were overall winners, Malbooma who were the Spirit Award winners and to our many age champions and the runners up. Thank you to Mrs Karner and all the staff who made these days possible.
On the 21st and 22nd May we have our Athletics Carnivals. Prep – Year 3 students will participate in a Fun Sports morning on the 21st. The Senior Carnival will commence at 1pm on the 21st and continues for a full day on the 22nd. Students who achieve qualifying times or distances over these days will be invited to participate in the Rockhampton District Athletics Carnival later in the term.
Gala Days: Gala Days are being held on May 17th and May 31st. Many of our Year 5 & 6 students will be participating in these two Gala Days along with students from all of the Capricorn Coast schools.
Cross Country: Congratulations to Ace and Jake for qualifying for and participating in the Rockhampton District Cross Country.
Music Events: Our Strings Orchestra and Instrumental Band will both perform at Fanfare next Monday 13th May. We wish our talented and eager musicians all the best at this event.
Health Checks: Students requiring hearing reviews as a follow up from recent hearing tests will be receiving these on Monday 20th May.
Prep Vision Screening: Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th May - All Prep students are eligible for FREE Vision Screening conducted here at school. It is strongly recommended that you give permission for your child to participate in these screeners even if you do not suspect any issues. If you haven't already given permission, please see your child's teacher or the office.
Simultaneous Story Time: Our early years classes will all participate in the National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday 22nd May. The story that will be shared across Australia that day is “Bowerbird Blues" by Aura Parker. The story will be shared online and our school also owns several copies of this book so students can share this story which inspires imagination, courage and confidence over and over again.
Austalian Early Development Cenus: In June, our school, along with thousands of others across the country, will participate in the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC). The AEDC is a teacher-completed census (similar to a questionnaire) which provides a comprehensive picture of how children have developed by the time they start their first year of full-time school. The data collected through the AEDC is used by schools, communities and governments to better understand children and families' needs, and identify the services, resources and support they need. Participation in the AEDC is voluntary, however the AEDC relies on all schools with children in their first year of full-time school participating in the collection. Parents of students in Prep will be receiving more information in the near future.
Under 8's Day: On Wednesday 19th June from 9-11am our Prep to Year 2 classes along with the Kindy students from Coastal Kids will be participating in a fun filled morning of activities to celebrate Under 8's Day. Watch for further information later in the term.
123 Magic: 123 Magic Emotion Coaching for Parents course will be run in Yeppoon over three sessions (Mon 27 May, 3 June, 10 June from 6:30 - 8:30pm). For further information and to register for this free workshop, call 1300783544 or visit catholiccarecq.com/123magic or contact our school office.
QASSP: Mr McMurtrie and myself will be away from school Thursday and Friday this week as we will be attending the QASSP (Qld Association of State School Principals) School Leadership Conference. We are looking forward to joining like minded colleagues as the conference promises to address some of the challenging and exciting topics we face in education today. Thank you to Mrs Witts and Mrs Karner who will be supporting our teachers and students at school in our absence.
